For almost any job you are interested in, you will have to fill out an application. Job applications can vary slightly but usually ask for the same information.

→ Your full legal name, address and phone number

→ Your eligibility to work in the United States

→ If you have ever been convicted of a crime

→ Your educational history (school name, address & degree/certification earned)

→ Your work history (company name, address, phone number, dates employed, supervisor’s name, reason for leaving & if they can be contacted)

→ References (name, address, phone number, relationship, and years known)

Most businesses require you to fill out an online application. If you are given a paper application, it is best practice to get 2 copies of the application or make a copy of the application BEFORE you start filling it out. This gives you a back up copy in case you make a mistake and need to start again.

The most important thing to remember when completing job applications is to

BE PREPARED!

How to stand out from other applicants.

→ Learn about the company. Do your research and become familiar with their values.

→ Follow up. Call and ask to speak with the hiring manager 2-3 days after submitting your application.

→ Have a professional voice message on your phone and always answer your phone in a polite way.
